Tough, tough decision, I say the worser of the two is the first one, because it cost them the game. Like I just don't know how I'd explain that to people. And you think, hey I can go home at least my parents will understand. Not for me. My dad would never let me live that down, are you kidding, you spike the ball looking like an idiot, and it ends up costing you the game. On the bright side, at least he didn't run in circles in fear of getting hit. You play football bro, put your head down fight to get back to the line of scrimmage and play another down. Nowhere in my football career have I ever heard a coach say "when all else fails just run backwards as far as you can then flip the ball super high into the air and hope for the best"... just ain't supposed to happen like that.
