World Series Preview

The end of October can only mean one thing, World Series Baseball(and the start of the NBA season for those 5 people out there that actually still care). It is america pastimes finest hour, always filled with countless memorable moments.

This year we have two very different squads that had very different journeys to the October classic.
Detroit is a team that has arguably the scariest middle of the lineup seen in the last ten years. Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder are two of the most feared hitters in the game. Now is Fielder worth the 214 million dollars the Tigers dished out to get him, No. But is he still a guy that can hit one out of the park on any pitch, Yes. While Fielder is no doubt dangerous, it is the other member of Motowns lineup that leaves pitchers shaking in there cleats. Miguel Cabera is having a season for the ages and will go down as one of the single best season a hitter has ever had. A word series championship would be icing on the cake for Cabrera. Ever since the MLB cracked down (somewhat) on its anti doping policy batting averages, home runs and ERAs have all dropped like crazy. Cabrera accomplished a feet that me, and many other baseball fans thought would never happen again. Cabrera became the first person since Yaz in 67' to lead the league in Home Runs, RBIs and batting average. So while the Tigers lineup is considered one of the strongest in the AL they also have a not to shabby AL Cy Young award winner at the top of the rotation. If I had to chose one starting pitcher in the game to throw in a game seven situation it would have to be Justin Verlander. This guys fastball reaches 99 mph in the 9th inning combined with a devastating slider and nasty 12-6 curve. There bullpen is suspect and the other members of their lineup are average but this team is hot, which is the most important thing in playoff baseball

Next comes the San Franciso Giants, who showed heart and came back from a 3-1 series hole to beat the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants are a team that never ceases to amaze me, they have one of the most average lineups in the NL, minus comeback player of the year Buster Posey, and still manage to score runs in big games against great pitching. Role players seem to turn into studs in San Fran during october and is something that I know all to well. My beloved Phillies and the Giants met in the playoffs in 2010 and perennial bottom of the lineup man Cody Ross came up huge and hit .440 in the series in root to beating the far superiors Phills and winning the 2010 world series. This year its Marco Scutaro turn. Boston fans know Scutaros game all to well, average defensively and very suspect with the stick most times but this october he has been on fire. Posey is also one of the the best young hitters in the game but besides that their line is also average at best. But just like Detriot these guys are hot and that is all that matters in playoff baseball. Why the giants seem to be so good in October is there pitching staff. Top to bottom they are one of the most feared rotations and bullpens in the league. Matt Cain, Zito, Bumgarener, Vogelsong, head this rotation and combined with a nasty bullpen this staff top to bottom may arguably be the best in the MLB.

So of course to rap this up I'm going to have to make a prediction of how I think this fall classic will end. My pick

Giants in 6
